Shots oF Tots!

Today was our annual Halloween Shots of Tots Day! This is something I do every Halloween and just love it! Just bring a can of food and $10 and get Halloween pics of your kids and then I take the food we collect to the Food bank. I did it yesterday and today and in all saw 34 kids, 1 newborn, and a yellow lab dressed as Dorothy! It was so much fun and my kids loved it and were so much help! They are looking forward to taking the food to the food bank with me and I am jsut glad to be sitting down right now! Happy Halloween little cuties!!! Thanks for a fun couple days!

We will miss our Great Grandpa!

Grandpa Wendell passed away yesterday morning after a courageous battle with cancer- Wendell has been such a great part of all of our lives and the cutest Grandpa to our kids. We will never forget him and the many wonderful memories! Never forgetting our kids B-Days, trips to the Flaming Gorge cabin, trips on the boat, swimming in the pool, playing games, hearing his wonderful, contageous laugh, eating his meat pies and seeing him at the State Fair, watching the way he loved life and always had a smile! We love you Grandpa Wen!

Last night Mikelle went to bed very sad and had been crying most of the night -- We talked about how grateful we are that we had him in our lives and that he is happy and in a good place. It was time for her prayers and I listened to her as she prayed one of the sweetest prayers I have ever heard! She said, "Dear, dear, dear, dear Heavenly Father......please bless Grandpa Wendell because he is a new member up there today, but I know you know that. Please help him feel happy and welcome, and thank you that we could know him and love him." It was so sweet and really taught me a lot as well! How grateful I am for being a wife and mom and getting to hear and witness the sweet times in life that can help make hard times a little easier to bear.

Trip to Tucson!

This past weekend my Dad and Rosie were in Tucson so we went to stay with them. Rosie's sister Evey lives there and takes care of Rosie's 93 yr. old Mom. They had to leave town so Rosie and Dad went down to stay and we were invited to stay the weekend. Evey's husband is a HUGE antique collector and also restores old cars -- For those who don't know -- I am a HUGE antique freak so I was in total heaven! Here are a few snaps of things around their garage! Also, some more of our trip in the following posts! So much fun!!!

Pima Air and Space museum

When we were in Tucson we were able to go with my Dad and the kids to the Pima Air and Space museum. It was amazing and the kids loved seeing all the old planes. We were able to go aboard the Presidential Aircraft, AIRFORCE ONE that was used by Presidents Kennedy and Johnson from 1961-5, had a tour by a cute man who flew in the war who showed us a real fighter plane, and also saw the B52 graveyard with hundreds of planes that were dumped out in the middle of nowhere! It was a lot of fun!

An elect lady

We had the wonderful opportunity to meet a truly elect lady this weekend! Rosie's dear 93 yr.old Mom Gwen Lyman. I was able to take a few snaps of her in front of her old phone that was used back in Escalante, UT. They owned and ran the telephone company there for many years. She is truly one of the sweetest ladies I have ever met and the kids fell in love with her! After this weekend, the have a new great, great, Grandma!

Build A Bear

Every time a grandchild turns 3, Grandma and Grandpa Smith take them to Build a bear to make their own bear! Now that we are in Flag, there is no Build a Bear here so we went down in Tucson and were with them so it made it even better. The girls each brought theirs and that made it fun too. He was in heaven and picked out a bear and picked out batman clothes for it! Thanks again G&G!

Time out boy

The first pic is a wall in our kitchen that hold a wreath and is right by our kitchen table. Well, I was up bathing the kids and Carter was supposedly down finishing dinner..... I heard him crying for me and kept calling to him to come up -- Finally, I went down to see why he wasn't coming. Hence, the second picture. Just one more of his busy little stunts. Hence, the third picture, the perfect shirt for him! I truly do feel like we're in time out all day but I know that we just need to keep being consistent and I pray it will work. I'm actually grateful that he's so busy and into everything -- I'd probably worry if he wasn't! Love you buddy!

Happiness, Your Heritage

I loved having conference this past weekend! I have felt such a lift and felt so much hope from the words of our general authorities -- at such an uncertain time that we are experiencing lately in our world! I loved President Uchtdorf's comments in the General Relief Society meeting. He talked about how hard we can be on ourselves and told about his wife who cooks masterpiece meals from around the world that are awe-inspiring but it never fails, she always finds something to apologize for. :) And then he contrasted it with how he cooks and said he does great fried eggs and is proud of them. He stated that some sisters undervalue themselves -- and I think we all do at times -- His words gave me comfort and strength in trying to not get too hard on ourselves and realize the things that we do as wives, mothers, grandmas, sisters, friends, daughters, etc. mean so much to each of us and out Heavenly Father! His closing words were wonderful! He said:

"My dear sisters, I have a simple faith. I believe that as you are faithful and diligent in keeping the commandments of God, as you draw closer to Him in faith, hope, and charity, things will work together for your good. I believe that as you immerse yourselves in the work of our Father—as you create beauty and as you are compassionate to others—God will encircle you in the arms of His love. Discouragement, inadequacy, and weariness will give way to a life of meaning, grace, and fulfillment.

As spirit daughters of our Heavenly Father, happiness is your heritage.

BEETS!

Well, we went out the other day and picked our beets -- they didn't grow quite as good as they did in UTAH but good enough. Carter and I went to the farmer's market and got a few more to make it a full batch and canned them! They are literally our family favorite! We can eat a whole bottle on our salads at dinner! Now we just wait 6 weeks for them to fully pickle -- a few have asked for the recipe so here us go! My friend Trish says that beets are like Neil Diamond, either ya love 'em or ya hate 'em! I love 'em both!

Pickled Beets

8 bunches of beets
4 c. apple cider vinegar
4 c. sugar
1 tsp. salt

First, boil the beets w/ skins on til they are
tender. Dump into cold water in sink and peel the skins off.
Cut into bite size pieces and put into jars.
Make the brine by boiling the vinegar, sugar,
and salt. Ladle into jars to the top and place lids
and rings on tightly. Water bathe for 30 min. and place
on shelves. They need to sit for 6 weeks. Then
refrigerate and eat!!!

Fall!

I had a shoot at the park tonight and took the kids along -- We had a few minutes to take some snaps of them -- here are a few favorites!

My dream!

So, one of my all time dreams is to play the guitar -- When I met Ry, I was taking lessons and then went down to Provo and they ended and I got a little too busy! Well, I happened upon this very used guitar for a total steal and couldn't resist! If anything, I thought it would make a good prop and hopefully allow me to mess around a little and learn again -- Then hopefully, when I get the hang of it , I'll get one that really sounds and looks good -- But hey! It's been fun and the kids are enjoying playing it too! We watched one of the BEST movies EVER this past week -- AUGUST RUSH!!! A "one to own" kid of a show! Loved it! And I think that's what has inspired the kids to play it too!

The Fence!

We came from a neighborhood of vinyl fences intoa neighborhood with all wood fences! Come to find out -- they are A LOT of work and ours had never been stained :) And it showed! We got some quotes to have people do it for us and then just thought we'd do it ourselves! It has been work, but a lot of fun to see what a difference it makes -- We spent our entire Saturday pressure washing the fence (I mean our entire Saturday!) But wow! It worked! He kids have even had fun helping! Here's our process!
